Forest fire guard rehabilitation
Removal of fire guard on steep slopes on Notch Hill and Terrace Mountain fires. Forest fire guards are returned as close as possible to the natural state prior to the fire, ditching is employed to reduce erosion and coarse woody debris is scattered to retain moisture and prevent excessive run-off.
- Spider walking excavator used to reclaim guards too steep for conventional excavators.
- Steep and inaccessible guards meant working several days in a row without road access, the extended fuel capacity on the spider allowed for 3-4 full days of work before refeulling was required.
